Thomas Tingcombe

THOMAS TINGCOMBE.

Sometime back in the late 17th century Samuel Skelton sold Boraton (Burraton) Estate in Saltash to John Tingcombe.The son of John Tingcombe was Thomas Tingcombe.

Thomas was a Yeoman, lived at St.Stephens by Saltash and died in 1747.In his will, Thomas Tingcombe left Boraton estate to his wife Joan.

Thomas also left Wharaton (Warraton) Estate in Saltash to his wife Joan Tingcombe and to his father in law John Martyn from Callington. Apart from leaving his cousins, the Whipples many shillings,

Thomas also left £1 to the poor of St.Stephens Parish!

The sum total of the his inventory Exhibited was £141 5s 0d

Joan Tingcombe’s Children

Joan Tingcombe was Thomas’s wife and died 19 years later than Thomas in 1766.

One of our members spotted this plaque on the exterior wall of St. Stephens Church in Saltash. Some more research from the Saltash Heritage Trust discovered the children’s names.

The four Babies that were born to Joan and Thomas Tingcombe were called .
John “Baptised” 25/4/1727.
Jane “ Baptised” 28/6/1738.
Thomas “ Baptised” 24/12/1744
Joan “Baptised”15/6/1746.
